More than half a million visitors enter Uppsala Cathedral every year. It is the largest and tallest church in Scandinavia. Construction began in the thirteenth century. It was consecrated in 1435. The cathedral contains the relics of Eric the Holy and a shrine in his honour. Many famous Swedes are buried here including Carl Linnaeus and King Gustav I. The treasury contains fascinating, beautiful and valuable plate and textiles. There is a shop and information point here. You will find a cafe in the Cathedral Centre nearby. The Cathedral has three organs and a number of choirs and hosts many concerts and High Masses during the year.
