St. Maria Magdalena Church is one of the oldest intact churches in Stockholm. There was a church on this site before the Reformation, but it was destroyed by King Gustav Vasa, and only rebuilt in the reign of John III. The church is a fine example of baroque architecture, and both Nicodemus Tessin the Elder and Younger worked on it. The painting at the High Altar shows the Adoration of the Shepherds at the Nativity and is by Louis Masreliez. It was completed in 1800. The baroque pulpit and organ facade are both eighteenth century.
