St. Gertrud’s Church, popularly known as Tyska Kyrkan or "the German Church" was originally headquarters of a German merchant’s guild. It has a dramatic spire, which towers over most of the Old Town. The tower was rebuilt at its current height after a fire in the nineteenth century. The church has a predominantly seventeenth century appearance. The fine, elaborate pulpit is well worth seeing. The largest of the church bells here is the second largest in all of Sweden.
