The Folkoperan opened in 1976 and along with the Kungliga Operan is the top opera house in Stockholm. The main season of performances runs from September to May, with a wide range of styles on offer. The Folkoperan puts on both classic opera sung in Swedish as well as daring and sometimes controversial contemporary pieces. If you want to experience something a little different from the normal opera scene, then this is the place to visit.
