The Dance Museum in Stockholm is an institution virtually unique in the world. It was founded by the leader of the Swedish ballet, aristocrat and art collector Rolf de Maré, in 1953. It contains a huge collection of costumes and artefacts related to all the performing arts throughout the world. There are particularly interesting exhibits from Africa and Asia. It mounts regular temporary exhibitions. A large number of activities take place here including concerts, performances, lectures, classes and demonstrations. The museum has both a cafeteria and a shop and is very centrally located.
