The Biological Museum was built in 1893 and is an extraordinary building inspired by the designs of medieval Norwegian stave churches. The museum contains a huge collection of native Scandinavian stuffed birds and animals presented in diorama arrangements with extravagant painted backdrops, so that one gets a clear idea of the natural habitat in which the creatures are found. The main exhibition attempts to cover the main landscapes of mainland Sweden, while two smaller ones recreate Greenland and an Arctic Ocean cave.
