This church is rich in history. It was built in the latter half of the thirteenth century. Some of the original murals painted in the church are still visible along with the consecration cross. Information booklets on the church have been prepared in three languages. The body of King Gustav Vasa (Gustav I) was lain in state here on the way to his funeral in 1560. Alsike Church lies a few kilometres to the west of Knivsta. It lies next door to a convent.
